Engagement Style Guide
Why Engagement Photos?
To Celebrate being Engaged! Taking photos before your wedding is a wonderful way to work with your photographer. It's also a smart idea if you are camera shy. Engagement photos are a fun + romantic escape from all the planning!
When to Book
You can do them anytime but ideally about 8-10 months out from your wedding date. This gives you ample time to use photos for your Save the Date invites, wedding website + to have printed around your home in anticipation for the big day.
For the best light, pick either at sunrise or two hours before sunset. Mornings are amazing as the streets are empty + the world is quiet. I always recommend them.
Think about what season you want to shoot in. Fall lends itself to cozy sweaters, bonfires, and dramatic tree colors. Summer will feel brighter and is great for flowy dresses and evening strolls by the beach. There are endless possibilities for all seasons.
You are unique and your location should be too. It could be somewhere that has meaning or something brand new to explore together. Think sailing on a boat, exploring a historic location, planning a champagne picnic on top of a mountain, a hike through the desert, dancing through city streets, horseback riding through the woods. Go for it. No experience is too wild.
Keep your outfits timeless + personal. Find colors that compliment your skin and hair tones. Play with coordinating colors of each other too. Be mindful of the environment you will be in. Primary tones always stand out. Avoid pure white and wild, busy patterns. Check out my Pinterest board with tons of outfit ideas and inspiration.
Including your pets is a wonderful idea and may even help you relax if you are feeling anxious about your shoot.
I hope you've found this guide helpful and inspirational to you in planning your engagement session. The most important part about your session is to celebrate this time of being so happily engaged and to have a blast in doing so.
